Hurricane Relief

There are so many that have been affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. We were able to partner with an organization to provide campers for a community where many families lost their homes. Take a look at some of the people we were able to help with your generosity!

This is Dawn and her mom, Amy. Dawn contacted us and said her mom and stepdad lived in Burnsville in the mountains. They had a mudslide in front of and behind their home. The mudslide didn’t totally destroy the home but they had major damage to the house. They were airlifted out five days after the storm. Before the storm, they had been living with family, but Eddie, Amy’s husband, is on oxygen and they needed a place of their own.

They were so grateful to receive a camper and can’t believe the kindness of others.

This is Dakota. He and his wife, Taylor, lived in a home that had two large trees fall on it. They were in the house, but thankfully escaped without injury. They have been living in their car for the past few weeks because hotels have doubled their cost for rooms. Taylor is seven months pregnant and needed somewhere to stay.

As we drove away, we left Dakota crying but very thankful for all who were kind to provide them with this camper.

This is a camper we delivered to a mom and her daughter in Swannanoa.

Her home was flooded and had a tree fall on it. They have been sleeping on the sofa and floor of a friends house. She volunteered after the storm, taking supplies to folks that had their vehicles damaged. She was very grateful for the camper and hopes to help others like she has been helped.

This is Dawn and Tony, who lived in the mountains of Candler, NC. Their mobile home was completely destroyed. They’ve been living out of their vehicle since the storm – 35 days total. Now, they will sleep in a bed, thanks to the goodness of God and His people.

This is Mary. She was at work when the storm hit. She came home to find her house had been washed away. It was just gone, along with her two dogs, cat and everything she owned.

She is still devastated with the loss of her pets but is very happy to be able to have her own place again.

We are working to help Mary’s sister, who also lost her home in the storm.

This is Kevin and Teresa. They lived directly across the street from the river that flooded. They were home when the water started to rise and started gathering anything they could save to take to a small shed they had at a higher elevation. While gathering things in the basement, the water began to rise and the basement wall gave way while Kevin was still in there. He said the water went from 6 inches to 7 feet in mere seconds.

The home they lost was over 80 years old. Kevin had lived there his entire life.
